Situated on the edge of the Aberdares Mountain Range in central Kenya, the town of Mugunda is largely a subsistence farming community located in the rural reaches of Nyeri County. Like women in many rural areas of Kenya and East Africa, travel logistics often prevent many Muganda women from receiving safe and consistent maternal care.

Mugunda is located in Nyeri Province in the heart of Central Kenya.
This is the road that leads from the town of Nairutia into the hills, and eventually to Mugunda. This road becomes nearly impassable during the rainy season.
